About Ayurveda

At Sankalpa Holisic Health we integrate Ayurveda as a way of life and medical system in our offering to you.

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is both a way of life and a medical system that has been used worldwide for over 5000 years and can be attributed as the oldest healing method known to man. Ayus means “life” and Veda means “knowledge”. Ayurveda is thus in the broadest sense of the word “knowledge about life”. This knowledge comes from the Vedas, the oldest Indian scriptures, which are based on a holistic view of mankind.

Lifestyle and diet are an important part of Ayurvedic treatment. Good health comes from a proper balance of three life energies called Dosha’s, which are a combination of the five elements (earth, water, fire, air and ether). These five elements are clustered in three life energies, namely: Vata: contains the elements air and ether Pitta: contains the elements water and fire Kapha: contains the elements earth and water Ayurveda has evolved over the millennia, making it a dynamic science.

In the classical texts, however, there was already a subdivision into specialties and disciplines, partly with the classifications that we find in modern medicine today. There are 8 main directions or specialties within Ayurveda:

  • internal medicine
  • surgery
  • throat, nose and ear medicine
  • paediatrics and gynecology
  • toxicology
  • psychiatry
  • rejuvenation (geriatrics and revitalization)
  • aphrodisiacs (fertility and virility)

Ayurveda was officially recognized as Medicine by the WHO (World Health Organization) in 1977, noting that these often provide solutions where Western medicine stops.

What can Ayurveda do for you?

Due to the holistic approach Ayurveda works on the physical, mental and emotional level. Ayurveda treats the whole person, not just the disease or the complaints. Ayurvedic treatment treats the cause and not just the symptom.

The main strength of Ayurveda is that it increases your / your own self-healing ability. Imbalance of the doshas (life energies) both mentally and physically can lead to a diminished sense of well-being or even illness.

Too much stress or waste products in the body are usually the cause of a large number of complaints. The accumulation of waste is often caused by a diet and lifestyle that is not appropriate to your / your personal dosha. An important step in the Ayurvedic treatment plan is to cleanse the body and the mind of the accumulated waste products. Precisely because Ayurveda is holistic, the treatment works on different levels: nutrition, lifestyle and attitude to life. Ayurveda uses various treatment methods and / or therapies to bring the body and mind into balance.
